Congress of Secular Jewish Organizations
of North America
Annual Memorial Day
Weekend Conference
May 28, 2010-May 31, 2010
Cleveland, OH
For more
than 35 years, members of the Congress of Secular Organizations of North
America has looked forward to Memorial Day weekend, reuniting with friends
and establishing new ones, while being engaged in stimulating discussions
and workshops on issues important to Secular Humanist Jews. Many Sholom
Aleichem Club members were involved in the founding and formulating
of the Congress. There are adult, teenager and young adult components
of the Conference. They represent Secular Jewish schools and organizations
in North America.
“We already
have a great number of workshop presenters having accepted to share
their wisdom and expose themselves to the relentless pounding of our
participants’ comments and questions. We are also lining up
great entertainment for Saturday evening, and the Sunday talent show
(after the banquet) will again surprise and touch you with its revelation
that we have, in our midst, some of the most spectacular talents in
the fields of music, dance, story telling, sketches, stand-up, and
utter silliness. Here is a selection of workshop topics (preliminary
titles):
- The Jews Of India – Ancient Origins
and Current Observations
- Yiddish/JewishTheatre – Where Did It Come From
And Where Is It Going?
- Secular Jewish Education
- Exploring Our Jewish Roots Through Film
- Yiddish Immigration And Jewish Values
- Jews And The Left: A Natural Affinity?
- Secret Medical School In The Warsaw Ghetto
- Gay Issues and Jews
- Jewish DNA: What Have We Inherited?
- Do (Jewish) Newspapers Have A Future?
- Atheism As An Expression Of Humanism
- Free Speech On The Internet
I know this is
a tough year financially. But so was last year. And still, you came.
For who wants to miss this annual, emotional, educational, unsurpassed
event? Who wants to miss Paul Shane’s words of unfathomable
wisdom at the talent show? Who wants to miss the playing and singing
into the wee hours of dawn? Who wants to miss Frisbee at the Lawn
and Sleeping in the Lounge? And who wants to miss the warm feeling
of seeing old and meeting new friends in the joyful and educational
setting of a CSJO conference? So …come, partake, and exult!
With utmost devotion,
Hans Leander ,
Conference Committee Coordinator
